COOLINE™ eases the burden of and supports the body's cooling system and protects the body from overheating through active cooling. At the same time, it can alleviate a decrease in performance and concentration and is a messenger to reduce heat-caused health problems in multiple sclerosis or cardiovascular disease.

The Problem

Because the body suffers from loss of fluids and heat accumulation under hot conditions, high temperatures place a heavy demand on our cardiovascular system. In particular, cardiovascular patients are at risk from such stress. Elderly people are also affected because the sense for thirst decreases with age, so that frequently too little liquid is taken in over a longer period of time. In addition, the body's ability to perspire is diminished in old age and thus, the extent of heat dissipation through this mechanism is reduced.Both may lead to heat accumulation accompanied by an acute rise in body temperature that can culminate with heatstroke or even failure of the vital organs. However, with appropriate cooling, these outcomes can be alleviated.

The Solution

Because of the quick, simple and prolonged cooling effect of the COOLINE vest, which to date has been used in the area of health and safety in hot workplaces, or by the military, studies are currently being performed to investigate how people with health problems could also benefit from COOLINE. The fact is that COOLINE can help relieve heat-related problems especially in the elderly or people with cardiovascular problems because cooling of the skin promotes the dissipation of excess heat inside the body.

COOLINE uses the same cooling principle as the human body: At high temperatures the body perspires; the perspiration evaporates and through this, a cooling effect is created at the skin surface. The COOLINE material also makes use of this evaporative cooling principle. It is simply and quickly saturated with water and cools the wearer through water evaporation. The cooling vests do not cover the kidney area and are made of a comfortable, functional fibre whose exterior remains dry. The vest cools the area of the body that is most affected by heat stress and thus, reduces the burden on the cardiovascular system.

Thermokinetic study The "THERMOMAN" study conducted by the Swiss national research institute Empa - Materials Science and Technology in St. Gallen confirmed the effectiveness of COOLINE. The parts of the body protected by the high tech material showed a lower temperature rise than those not protected by the new high tech fleece. See Empa Research Report No. 204,959 of 2.2.2006 An in-vitro thermokinetic study conducted in a laboratory setting on the high tech material at an environmental temperature of 24°C showed a 6°C temperature reduction to 18°C. At an ambient temperature of 30°C, the temperature of the material was a cool 16°C and was maintained for over 40 hours.
